Blog Post #6 - Silent Questions
May 14th, 2008 by blakem1
My old neighborhood was on a hill. There were big houses and small houses. There was a great diversity of people in the vicinity of my residence. It wasn’t a very friendly community. Everyone mostly kept to themselves.
Justice has many different meanings for many different people. For me it means that when someone does something bad, no matter what it is, their punishment is exactly what they did. An eye for an eye. Sometimes unjust things occur in life. The most unjust occurance I have ever heard of is when a murderer gets caught for killing someone, but he is so wealthy he can afford a good lawer and gets off the hook clean.
Empathy can be described when you look through someone elses eyes and see their point of view. The last time I felt empathy for someone was when I was at my game and one of the players on my team wasn’t put in because he wasn’t that big of a hitter. Most of the time it is always good to be empathetic. It is possible to feel empathy for someone even when you are mad at them. The world would be a lot colder and meaner of a place if no one felt empathy.

Blog Post #5 - Memoir
April 25th, 2008 by blakem1
On the second week of February my step-dad, my brother and I took a ski trip to Verona, Italy. The plane ride there was terrible, though the trip after was great. The culture in Italy was much different than anything I have ever seen before, and the ski resort was amazing.
The plane ride was the worst flight experience I have ever had. The flight lasted thirteen hours, and there wasn’t a single intresting movie for the duration of the flight. It was extremely cramped, and somehow you always get stuck next to the guy that sleeps the whole time but snores and wiggles the whole time. The meal we were served was terrible. Everything was barely luke warm and tasted like garbage.
Once we got thereeverything went great. The ski resort was huge. There is over four-hundred lifts and about seven-hundred and twenty miles of ski runs. There were lodges everywhere you wanted to get food, no matter where you were on the mountains. Usually in American resorts the food is quick and not great, but all the food there was delicious. This was an amazing experience for me, and I hope to return someday.

Blog Post #4 - Text Messaging… Does it help or hinder student writing?
April 13th, 2008 by blakem1
My general thoughts on text messaging are good. I think it is a quick easy way for friends to talk. I don’t have a phone to text with, but when I have permission to use one I text about thirty to forty times a day. I usually talk to two to three people at a time. Texting does not make a difference in my ability to write well. Adults are always saying it ruins kids ability to write, but I’ve never seen that happen. Text messaging doesn’t impact my writing at all. In schools texting has a place during a break time or work time. Texting doesn’t really have a place in movies and tv. Text messaging doesn’t really change face-to-face comunication at all. Usually people would rather talk face-to-face, but when you can’t, there is texting.

Blog Post #3 - Independent Reading - New Understandings
April 6th, 2008 by blakem1
I have gained a new insight about reading through the time I have spent in class doing silent reading. I never really liked reading, but if you get a good book it’s not so bad. The book I’m reading is A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. Though there isn’t really a quote from the book that brought me this new insight, I still enjoy the book.

Blog Post # 2 - Blogs? What’s a Blog?
April 6th, 2008 by blakem1
A blog in my opinion is a sample of writing a person can post on the internet to express themselves or explain an idea. The only other place I have heard of blogs is on myspace. I am somewhat comfortable with computers. I know how to use them enough to get by, but thats about it. All I really do with computers is write school reports and download music. My opinion of writing isn’t great. I don’t mind it that much when there is a paper every once in a while, but usually I don’t like to write. If I do have to write, the kind of writing I would choose to do would be a history paper or something because I don’t have to spend a lot of preperation time and I only have to use my notes. People are concerned with kids on the internet because there are people that pretend to be someone there not to kidnap a little kid or something. The internet can be dangerous if you don’t know what to watch out for. My peers mostly use the internet for myspace. I am not really a fan of the blog idea, so I am not really looking forward to the year ahead: knowing how much I will have to use the blogs.

Blog Post #1-Independant Reading-Series of Unfortunate Events
April 4th, 2008 by blakem1
I chose to read one of the books in the series of “A series of unfortunate events”. I am reading the sixth book in the series. I saw the movie when it first came out in theatres, and I liked it. So I decided to read the book. The sixth book was the next book that was not already in the movie. I picked that one because I didn’t really want to read the others, already having seen the first five in the movie. The book is so far about the orphans moving into a new home that is a 70 bedroom apartment. The man they have been hiding from, Count Olaf, has found them. Their new gaurdians are unaware of the imposter and are unwilling to listen to the children.
